PROMOTING & PRESERVING OUR

WESTERN HERIT AGE

For those of us who love the romance of the "western lifestyle" Joe Baker perpetuates this unique form of Americana. With his slow southern drawl and a tip of his hat he will make you feel as if you were having a cup of coffee with him by a flickering' campfire when you tune in to his "Backforty Bunkhouse ShoW@ "airing on "New Mexico's Bear" and "W-1 05" in Ruidoso, New Mexico.

Joe is an avid fan of western swing, Texas honky-tonk, classic country, cowboy music and poetry, and can fill you in on the oldest to latest happenings in these fields of music. He has been promoting western swing and cowboy music for over 29 years. His radio show is broadcast throughout all the western states and is strictly "western". Although he is only 55 years of age, the show is reminiscent of radio programs that aired in the 40's and 50's. He plays requests, holds contests weekly, giving away new CD's & Tee shirts or backstage passes to concerts and has a diverse and loyal listening audience. He is surprised when a teenager will win a CD of Western Swing or Western Music and get so excited saying "Where did you find this kind of music?" Listeners are genuinely pleased to get their hands on it. Joe is helping to preserve this art form by promoting it and his younger listeners are proof of that.

Born and raised in Mineral Wells, Joe is not your typical Disc Jockey. His first radio program on radio station KYXS in Mineral Wells/Weatherford, Texas was called "Horse Sense on the Finish Line" where he handicapped racehorses for Lone Star Park in their inaugural and second season. Next he had a documentary show called "Horse Sense on the Cutting Edge" which traced the roots of the cutting horse in Parker county, Texas. The Backforty Bunkhouse ShoW@ began at KWES Radio in Ruidoso in June 2001 and ran until March, 2003, when he joined MTD Broadcasting, Inc., the umbrella over radio stations KNMB/KWMW/KIDX/ KTUM and KRUI. He has lived all his life hooked on all things "Western." Western swing and cowboy music have always been a big part of that. He does his best to perpetuate this art form.

Since having been nominated for Disc Jockey of the Year in 2002 and 2003 by the Academy of Western Artists and KNMB, 96.7 FM, "New Mexico's Bear" nominated for Radio Station of the Year in 2004. he has been featured in numerous magazines and other publications throughout the United States and Canada. He is also a member of the Western Music Broadcasters Association (WMBA) and the Academy of Western Artists "Southwest Region", which covers Colorado, Nevada, Arizona and New Mexico.

KNMB 96.7 FM, "New Mexico's Bear" and KWMW 105.1 FM are both 100,000-watt stations with studios in Ruidoso, New Mexico. Tune in to Joe Baker's Backforty Bunkhouse ShoW@ every Saturday morning from 6 AM to 10 AM only on "New Mexico's Bear" and Regional Radio "W-1 05!"
